The latest update, published September 7, puts Hegotá at the center of Ethereum’s next development cycle while establishing a target for the network to become fully post-quantum ready by December 2029. The roadmap follows months of work involving researchers, engineers and contributors across the Ethereum ecosystem.
The announcement gives the Ethereum community a clearer view of what developers intend to prioritize after the upcoming Glamsterdam upgrade.
Ethereum Turns Toward Hegotá
With Glamsterdam approaching mainnet, Ethereum’s Protocol cluster has moved into the planning stage for Hegotá.
The Foundation said its latest review considered 62 EIPs, with roughly 60 researchers and engineers contributing to the process. Rather than attempting to include every proposed improvement, developers are narrowing the scope around changes considered most important for Ethereum’s future.

Ethereum developers have already opened the Platåberget testnet for public testing of Glamsterdam-related changes. The upgrade introduces changes affecting gas pricing and other protocol mechanics, meaning wallets, indexers, gas estimators and some smart contracts need to be tested against the new environment.
The Ethereum Foundation recently warned developers that certain gas repricings could affect a small number of contracts, although most applications are expected to remain unaffected.
